What Bald Eagles and Great Egrets Eat for Lunch

Have taken a few photographs in the past week. Here are a few.

Dirty Eagle with Fish Head Lunch

Better look at Lunch.
I wonder if this is what eaglets really want to eat?

I was riding down the road when I saw a Great Egret in a small roadside ditch.  I turned around and took these photos without even getting out of the car.

Just Caught Lunch

Great pictures man! What camera do you use?

I don't happen to see exotic birds when I'm out cycling... :-)

Constantin,

I use a Canon T1i and a 70/300 IS 4.0/5.6 for wildlife.

The one bird, the Great Egret is not exotic at all. When I looked it up on the net, they exist almost worldwide. I did not know there are birds indigenous to Europe, Africa, Asia, and North and South America but this one is. I know of one gravel road you can ride 1 or 2 miles down and are guaranteed to see one. On a good day you can see 10 or 15 on that road. They will often let you ride close by. The other large wading bird there, the Great Blue Heron will never let you get close.

As for the eagles, we were lucky for a while. We had a pair nest right on a cycling route. When we had a local road criterium, the cops paid more attention to the eagles than they did to the racers.

A week or two later, a storm destroyed the nest. Really bummed me out.

Hey, just wanted to say I liked your comment on BSNYC's blog today. When I read your blog immediately thereafter, totally blown away by your faith. I have been going through cancer, chemotherapy, seizures, and surgery since October. And in spite of it all, I have seen God work in my life and my faith has been re-newed. I have found myself in a way believing that cancer has been one of the best things to happen to me. It has made me appreciate my wife and children so much more and realize how great a gift they are. I'm not sure how long I have to live, or if I'll be cured, but God has given me peace about whatever happens. Sure I don't want to die. I want to see my children grow up and grow old with my wife. I'm truly sorry about what's happening to you. I CAN imagine what it would be like to lose the ability to do the things you love to do. I had a huge tumor in my leg and if it weren't for a miracle I would have been paralyzed from the knee down. As it is, I've lost 80% of my hamstring. Your faith is encouraging, and it wasn't coincidence that I saw your comment. May God bless you and I'll be praying for you. He is amazing. You are an inspiration!
